Frequently Asked Questions About my Hair

Hello beautiful friends, I wanted to create this blog post to answer all of your questions about my hair extension. I will update this post in the future if anything changes.

I wear a full lace wig by the brand “Bellatique” in the style “Stella” that I buy at the Beauty Supply Store. This store is one of the few places in New York that sells this wig. (Store Address: 162-03 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432)

Length

I usually get 26 or 28 inches. But I have my hairstylist cut the ends to make them even.

Color

I like to go for natural brown 1B. As I wash the hair it becomes lighter, more like the color that is showing up in the above photo.

Install

For installation, I go to a professional hairstylist to have her install the wig for me, cut the lace, create a custom hairline, etc... For framing the face and layering, I like to go to a Dominican Hair Salon. I noticed that the hair doesn't shed or become brittle when the Dominicans cut it as opposed to my wig install stylist. Weird but those are the tiny details I pay attention to. I also custom pluck the front of the hairline myself to get the wig to look as natural as possible. The stylist can also do this for you if you request it but I like to do it myself.

Maintenance

I do my own re-installs for the most part unless I have a special occasion. I also maintain the hair pretty well. I sleep on a silk pillowcase to make sure the hair doesn’t dry out quickly. I tie the front/hair line with a silk headband when going to bed to make sure the wig does not move while I sleep. I do not wear a bonnet to bed.

Wash

I was the hair every time I have to reinstall it typically once a week or once every 2 weeks. I use any moisturizing shampoo that I have to wash the hair but the conditioner is the key for me. I use Treseme Smooth and Silky conditioner to condition the hair. Sometimes I do not use a shampoo, I just soak the hair in the conditioner, rinse it out, let it air dry and reinstall.

Reinstalls

For reinstalls, I use Got 2B Glued Freeze Blast spray with black Ampro gel. I notice that the other gels tend to leave a white cast that I do not like. As a result, I decided to go for black gel. I use any soft moose and a hot comb to make sure my parting lays flat. Another trick that I use for parting is, when I wash the hair, I wash it in the desired part (side or middle). This allows the hair to dry in place and make it lay flat in position.

Styling
When styling the hair, I usually go for curls at the ends of the hair. I use a Remington curling wand to curl the hair. I curl the hair daily. I use Biosilk hair oil for shine and moisture (mostly on the ends). I use a wide tooth comb to comb out my curls. I also use a wide tooth comb to detangle the hair when I wash it.
