How To Find The Perfect Hairstyle For Your Face Shape and Facial Features

I speak a lot about being well-groomed and hair is a very important part of your grooming. In this article, we will not only discuss the importance of well-groomed hair but also how to find the perfect hairstyle for your face shape and facial features. I want to preface this by saying that this is not a political blog and I do not use my hair to make any political statements, all I care about when it comes to my hairstyle is what I believe looks good on me.

Have you ever seen someone with a really cute outfit on but something is just off about the whole look and you cannot seem to put your finger on it? Take a look at their hair, it may be the person’s hairstyle. I believe that hair is an accessory like a handbag and it has to go with the outfit or else the whole look fails. I am a very visual person and when I put an outfit together, I have an image in my head of what I look like in the outfit from hair to toe.

Well-groomed hair to me is hair that is in its natural color with 99.9% of the strands in place and doing what the hair is supposed to do naturally. For example, if you are wearing your hair curly, you want it to be in its natural color and have the strands flow harmoniously with minimal freeze. If you are wearing your hair straight, the same principle applies and you want to have no annoying fly-aways. Symmetry is also very important, you want to make sure there is symmetry in your hairstyle whether you are rocking it short or long, make sure it looks symmetric against your face shape. I personally wear a long wig (curly or straight) and I always make sure my hairstylist cuts the ends for a symmetric look. Long or short, it doesn’t matter as long as it suits your face shape and looks good on you.

Finding The Perfect Hairstyle For Your Face Shape and Facial Features

Finding the perfect hairstyle for your facial features and your face shape might take some time and a bit of experimenting. If you already like to experiment with different hairstyles, a quick look at old photos of you in different hairstyles may point you in the right direction. If you are looking at a couple of different photos of different styles that you are not sure about ask a child and he/she will point you in the right direction, children are bluntly honest. The next thing you can do is find a public figure or someone online with a similar face shape, look at different hairstyles that they wear and choose the one you think looks best.

For example, my current hairstyle is inspired by Naomi Campbell. I used to wear my hair straight but shorter and looking back at my photos, I realized that it made me look older. When I saw Naomi’s long middle part straight hairstyle, I thought I may be able to pull it off because we have some similar features. I do not think we look alike but we share some similar features. Ciara is also another person that I can get hair inspiration from because we have some similar features the high cheekbones and small nose. When I draw hair inspiration from someone else, I also keep in mind my lifestyle and the way I dress to make sure that the hairstyle will go with my outfits and lifestyle. My hair is natural under the wigs and it is growing like wild fire, however, when I wear my natural hair as an afro, I look like I am 15 years old. While I enjoy looking young, I am looking to look a little bit older than a teenager.

When In Doubt

When in doubt go for a middle part. Middle parts look good on almost every face shape and it makes most women look younger. Also when in doubt go long because short hair on most women make us look older. Some women are able to pull off a short hairstyle and still look young, if that’s you, perfect! I don’t know about you but I am forever 21 (lol) so I like hairstyles that make me look young.  I used to wear a short bob wig and it made me look so much older., never again. But it was all part of the experiment and the journey to find the hairstyles that look great on me.
